Muthawhat more like muthaf***er!!!
That thing was in pretty decent nick, shed loads of history and barely any rust when it left my hands. PeteGT (RIP) did the head gasket so should have lasted a long time. I bet someone wanted a 16v conversion and that killed it. Damn 16v conversions kill GTi's

Yup. Jcth had it, gave it to Paul to do full resto, it got taken apart then it sat for about 3 years for various reasons not being touched then eventually Paul bought it and we stripped it for parts :( shame but just kinda happened

I used to be a member on here, Just thought id see how many AX's are still going, im surprised! Even then people had problems with them rusting. I sold my AX GT about 13 years ago, it was a great car, had some decent tuning on the engine, I think the lad I sold it to crashed it not long after he bought it, It was never registered or taxed again, shame.

Yup I have seen a lot of AX GTI doing 16V conversion lately.

I got my engine also from a AX GTI in my 1.4i and really sad to see this happening.
